1 Weft Mixing
The practice of weaving simultaneously two or more cops or pirns of the same kind or colour of weft. The object is to destroy any tendency to shadiness when weaving dyed weft, or when weaving grey weft for subsequent piece-dyeing; or to so mix up the weft that variations in twist, colour, etc., do not show in the finished fabric. The commonest method of weft mixing is to take two picks in alternate succession from two different cops of the same kind. The same method is practised when weaving alternate pairs of S and Z twist. One firm makes a box motion adapted to weave with three shuttles with the same kind of weft and to insert one pick only from each shuttle in regular succession. -
2 Weft Knit
A knitted texture capable of being formed from a single thread forming a succession of loops horizontally, each successive horizontal row of loops being drawn through the previous row of loops one stitch at a time. The simplest kind of weft-knit fabric is the plain knitting done by hand needles in the home. -
3 Weft
The series of threads that pass from selvedge to selvedge of the fabric and are known as picks. -
4 Lustre Dress Fabric
LUSTRES, LUSTRE DRESS FABRICA two-fold cotton warp dress fabric, with mohair weft of rather coarse counts. The warp is yarn-dyed and the cloth cross-dyed. During the finishing process the weft is thrown to the surface, entirely covering the warp by reason of the warp being pulled straight and the weft bending. All cotton cloths are sometimes sold as lustres. They are woven from bleached warp about 2/40's and soft spun dyed weft about 12's. 5 Builder Fabric
This is the cotton cloth on which the motor tyre maker places the greatest reliance for the wearing qualities of the finished tyre. There are two main varieties, the square woven or " builder fabric," in which the warp and weft threads are practically equal, and the " cord " fabric, which is also square woven, but wherein the warp only is relied on for the strength or any other stress-resisting qualities that may be required. The builder fabric is tightly woven, giving it a stiff, hard feel, and is a superfine " duck." The standard fabric is 171/4 oz. per square yard, composed for 22's or 23's warp and weft yarns, 11-fold single ply, the twist in the single 14 to 15 turns, and in the ply yarn 4 to 5 turns per inch; 23 X 23-ends and picks per inch. 6 Cord Tyre Fabric
A cotton cloth for motor tyres devised to eliminate the chafing action of threads crossing each other, as obtains in the " builder " fabric. The cloth is made with strong corded threads for the warp, with as little weft as possible. The picks vary from 4 to 10 per inch. The warp threads are laid parallel and vary from 22 to 25 per inch. The weft is a single end of 21's to 23's with 10 to 16 turns per inch and is only intended to retain the warp threads in parallel order. The warp takes all the strain, and is composed of two-ply threads, counts 23's, 5 X 3 ends twisted right, left, right. The single yarn is 16 to 20 turns, first doubling 5 ends up, 16 to 20 turns, and the finishing twisting 15 ends (5 X 3) is also 16 to 20 turns per inch. 7 Extra Weft Figuring
A method of adding ornament to a fabric. In this case, as in extra warp figuring, removal of the extra figuring threads leaves a complete woven structure. Extra weft may interweave with all the fabric ground threads, or only in parts, in which case the floating portions may be removed by cropping. There may be one, two or more extra wefts used and only one warp.

8 Armure Wool Fabric
Made in wide widths for use as dresses, coats, etc., good quality yarns, 72-ends, 68 picks per inch. The warp is usually end and end mohair and worsted, two-fold yarns, such as 2 / 60's or 2 / 40's - The weft is single worsted 26's to 32's. Other qualities are made from one kind of warp, but in right and reverse twist, and up to about loo-ends per inch. Cotton weft is used in the cheapest cloths, about 48's yarn dyed black. The photograph shows a typical wool Armure fabric made in a fancy rep weave 84 X 68, 2 / 60's botany / 30's botany. A heavy cloth is also termed "Armure", used for drapery and curtains, woven with brocade figuring on the armure weave ground, and all-wool yarns

9 Thread Fabric
Plain woven, very strong, heavy cotton fabrics, made with ply warp and single weft, the picks of weft being placed very far apart. The fabric is used for foundation for tyres. -
10 Breaker Fabric
The breaker fabric is applied to the motor tyre just beneath the tread and its purpose is to protect the building fabric and to distribute the shock the tyre necessarily receives on the road. It is more embedded in the rubber matrix than the others. The fabric is of a lower texture, giving more and larger interstices through which the rubber may pass, thus permitting the consolidation of the two rubber layers (the inner and outer surfaces) forming practically a solid rubber body where the greatest frictional wear is to be encountered. The average breaker fabric is similar in construction to the builder fabric in respect to yams employed. Usually about 10 to 11-oz. per square yard, mock leno weave, 16's-6-ends, 5/6 turns warp; 18's-18-ends, 4/5 turns weft; 28-ends X 7 picks per inch (see Breaker and Cord Tyre Fabric) -
